How's this for a festival feeling? With snow on the fields of Britain seemingly daily this year, the summer festival season seems like a million years away, rather than a matter of months. With the launch of This Festival Feeling for 2010, we’re keen to get you in the mood for the amazing bands, atmosphere and feelings of festivals in 2010 before taking you on a journey across the fields and cities of the world, whether that be at the festivals themselves, here on the website, or in our monthly magazine.
Whether this is your first encounter with TFF or you were here before me, you’re in for a treat of the likes you’ve never seen before. We are the first and only festival publication to be 100% editorially-led, we write about festivals – not just about bands – and we interview the people who put on the festivals, the people behind the people who put on the festivals and the people who do all the little things that make a festival as magical as it is. If you want to put on your own festival, we’ll have advice on how to do that, if you want to know who a band is that’s playing a festival and doesn’t have an album out, we’ll let you know what they’re like, and if you’ve never been to a festival before, we’ll have the resources and guides to help you make an informed decision – whether you care about the bands, the age ranges of people who attend, the facilities for children, the environmental impact of the festival or the price, we’ll have all the information to help you out.
We care about all festivals, we don’t really care about advertising or ‘selling out’, we just care about entertainment. My first festival was the V Festival – an unashamedly branded festival, and I had a great time. These days I spend my festival hours at smaller festivals like Supersonic in Birmingham or End of the Road in Dorset, both without in-your-face advertising. All festivals have a different feeling, and that works amazingly because we all have a different take on what makes a great festival.
I’m incredibly keen to get feedback and contributions on all aspects of This Festival Feeling because what makes a festival feeling special is the people who experience it. If you have a fantastic feeling, let us know, if you think a festival isn’t getting the credit it deserves, let us know – 2010 is a new decade for music festivals, and a clean slate for This Festival Feeling, let’s work together and create the best independent festival publication in the world!
