After making a living selling car insurance, Iggy Pop has started to settle his environmental conscious by headling Øya Europe's greenest festival.
He is joined by big things of the moment Girls and Fools Gold, alongside Raekwon and local Norwegian acts Obliteration, Djerv and Susanne Sundfør, who are added to a line-up that boasts Pavement, Cymbals Eat Guitars, The Gaslight Anthem and local heroes Serena Maneesh and Lindstrøm & Christabelle.
Earlier this month, the festival has been awarded the Green 'n' Clean Award at the European Festival Awards. Commenting on their green status, Øya organisers said, "We are really proud and honoured to receive this distinction, and we truly appreciate that our ongoing work in this field is recognized. First and foremost, the award is a huge inspiration for the festival's continuous focus on environmental issues." Last December, Øya was named Oslo's greenest business in 2009 by Grønn Hverdag (Green Living), a network of people, groups and organisations working together to raise consciousness about environmental choices in everyday life.
Øya takes place in August, find out more on the festival's page.
He's older, perhaps not wiser, but we're sure he can still rock it like this...
