European Festival Award Nominees Announced

November 28, 2012 373Views

It was a mixed year for the UK festival scene in 2012, with cancellations for Sonisphere and Big Chill and poor ticket sales across the board for even the biggest festivals in Britain. However, the rest of Europe thrived this summer with bigger audiences and line-ups than ever before.

With European festivals offering music loving Brits the perfect opportunity to get some much needed sun sprinkled with some of the world’s top acts, is proving an increasingly popular choice year after year.

That’s why the announcement of the nominees for the European Festival awards has never been so relevant to the British festival lover. The 4th edition of these awards has seen a record-breaking turn-out of festival-fans rallying to support their favourite events and artists. More than a million public votes have been cast across 49 European countries, highlighting further the phenomenal passion for music festivals not just in Britain, but the whole of the continent.

The final shortlists in categories ranging from Best Major Festival to Anthem Of The Year have now be revealed. The winners will be announced and presented with their accolades at the European Festival Awards gala ceremony which crowns the opening night of the Eurosonic Noorderslag conference and showcase in Groningen, Holland on Wednesday 9th January 2013.

The UK are well represented with nominations for Ireland’s Electric Picnic Festival and British acts including Alt J, Florence & The Machine, Mumford and Sons and Jessie Ware up for awards.
